Artichoke

Jeffrey Hayes
"Artichoke"
Oil on panel, 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm)
NFS

I don't normally set aside finished pieces to keep for myself. In fact, almost never. For a couple of reasons, though, this one has a special meaning for me, so I'll be holding on to it, enjoying it on my studio wall.

This is so beautifully painted. I love the edges along the bottom of the artichoke, and the way they disappear into shadow.
Being a California native, artichokes are one of my staple vegetables - I just get a kick out of the grocery clerks here in PA when they look at my purchase with that 'what the heck is this??' expression on their face!

This is just lovely. I love paintings of artichokes and this is one of the best I've seen.

I love this painting too. My wife paints as well, and she often feels the same way you do about holding on to some of her paintings.
