There's a certain romance in the notion of a horseback ride into the Rajasthani desert, and that is exactly what I did this afternoon.
I'm not sure why this seemed like a good idea. The last time I got on a horse was at age 10, and it ended badly. But there it was, the hotel offered to arrange it, so I took the bait.
And in fact it was a very good idea. The city was getting a little overwhelming; the street vendors in particular are obnoxiously aggressive. Getting out under the wide-open sky for a few hours was exactly what I needed.
That said, though, 2 hours on a horse for the first time in decades has made me sore like you wouldn't believe.
