Today I'm launching a new blog, PaintingMovies.blogspot.com, which grew out of a great new project I began this summer. As I work on each painting, I take time-lapse photos throughout the process. These are then woven together to create short movies - usually around 2 minutes - showing all or at least part of the work... there's even music. I'm planning to do this with most of the paintings I do; even the daily paintings. Collectors can now see the works they're interested in from start to finish. I will be posting the movies here on StateOfTheArt, but I'm also launching this separate new blog to host only these movies. Please visit it often!
Also visit my other new blog, SushiPaintings.blogspot.com. Very shortly I'll be having more exciting and delicious new art up there.

Captive - painting and a movie

"Captive"
Oil on canvas
30 x 24 inches
Note: the "bowed" effect of the edges of the paintings is just a distortion the camera lens makes... they really are straight edges.
Ok - this is the final version movie I've made from stitching together the different time-lapse work sequences on this painting (several of which were posted here previously). No Oscars for cinematography, but it does convey the process of getting one of these large pieces done. I also have a movie of the sister painting to this one - I hope to have that online shortly. AND... once the two paintings have been varnished in a few days, I'll post proper images of the finished canvases.
Neil and Karen
Today I had the genuine pleasure of meeting Neil and Karen Hollingsworth, who were in the area for a joint show on Cape Cod. They're both truly extraordinary artists (check out their sites), and you just couldn't ask to meet nicer people.
Updates, Updates, Updates
I've been really, really bad about updating this blog for the last month. Apologies to readers who keep returning and finding absolutely nothing new. For most of this time, I've been working up some larger pieces for an upcoming show - next weekend, in fact. Aside from the time-lapse movies I've made, they don't really lend themselve to blog posts. Daily paintings have of course been on haitus. I'm probably also going to take a few weeks' break after the upcoming show. The daily paintings will return from their vacation immediately after that.
